I have plenty of shoes that I can’t use because they have a broken strap or buckle to r just don’t fit anymore. I can’t donate them so I scoured the internet for ideas to use and share of course.

Upcycle a damaged umbrella with paint, flowers and a ribbon or rope. Love this idea from Hometalk.
A few years ago I was in Boston at my boyfriends grandma’s home. She was about to reach 100 years in age and insisted on making us dinner. She proceeds to remove her vintage silverware, plates, cups and saucers, fabric napkins with a beautiful floral tablecloth, all from a Victorian style buffet chest. The candlesticks were lit, the matching table and chairs were filled with hungry family members and dinner was served.
It seems like gone are the days of making a production out of dinner time but I do love the unique style everyone is using to assemble a dining set. Apparently anything goes when it comes to tables and chairs. Benches, crates and mix-matched metal and wood chairs are the new farmhouse look and I love it!
With a vintage match safe. I was reading Kovel’s May newsletter and came across this interesting article about Match Safes. They were used to keep matches dry and were small enough to fit nicely into ones pocket. Made of silver and other metals the style of match safe one possessed was said to reflect a persons stature. I was amazed at the range in pricing for them today have learned that they are highly collectible. These pictured are for sale on eBay. Who knew?
When I saw this sad, lonely china cabinet sitting in a thrift store for only $19 my eyes widened and my heart started racing. You all know that feeling when you find a diamond in the rough for next to nothing! I scooped it up and took it home and went to work. My new small kitchen in my old historic home was short a pantry so I knew this would come in handy.
First the doors came off. They were missing the glass and I wanted open shelving so I didn’t have to fight for my food because that would make me angry. I added chicken wire to the sides, again missing glass, to contain my bags and boxes of goodies. A couple of coats of white chalk paint, some baskets and pails, and there it was. My answer to all of my cannned and dried food storage problems and it hides some small appliances underneath too. Petite but sweet!
I found this poor shutter in a pile of garbage and saved it from a landfill. It was missing some slats so I removed the entire middle portion and cleaned it up. After adding a light layer of colorful chalk paint, I tried adding some chicken wire. Unfortunately I could’t find an easy way to keep the end from being exposed which can be painful if your fingers catch it just right. So instead I took some twine and stapled it across the inside edges and added some cute little clothes pins I purchased at my local craft store. Another creative way to display your favorite memories.
With fall and cooler weather right around the corner I started to get excited about decorating for the holidays. Unfortunately Its a little too early to pull out the Christmas decor, (I had to talk myself out of it) so I decided to go to work on a fall wreath and found these great ideas on bhg.com.
Remember, upcycling is more exciting and budget friendly if you use what you have or use products of nature like pine cones, dried flowers, twigs or leaves. The best upcycle is original and it’s free!

Don’t give away those old books ladies and gentlemen! Let your imaginations run wild and put those pages and hard covers, that have a great vintage vibe, to use.
On one of my visits to a thrift store I found several of these great wooden, distressed, framed signs for only $2.99 each.
There were six of them so I bought all of them, not sure what I was going to do with them. At first I thought I would find a place to hang them in my apartment, but something about them wasn’t quite right. The printed sign inside the frames begin to appear cheesy and out-dated, so I decided to use them for picture frames and painted them black. Using my scrap booking supplies and pictures of my children, I’ve turned two of them into a simple framed, scrapbook collage.
I have four more to go. I’ll keep you posted.
